Clients

Clients talk to your server — pick any device, point it at the URL you set up on Install. Accounts exist server-side (no signup in any client): an admin creates them with the server CLI.

Download the signed APK from the GitHub releases page (also verify with the matching .sha256 asset):

sha256sum -c gochatandroid-<version>.apk.sha256

F-Droid: submission in progress — direct APK meanwhile.

  • Requirements: Android 9+ and a running GoChatHub server.
  • Install: open the APK; Android asks once to allow installs from your browser or file manager.
  • First run: enter your server URL and sign in with the account an admin created (ghc user create) — the app is login-only.
  • Push: UnifiedPush through your server’s own ntfy (see the installer README’s ntfy section) — message content never travels through the push transport.
  • Update: new releases appear on the releases page above.

The web client is not a separate download — it is built into your deployment and served by the same host:

  • If your server is up: open your server URL in any browser and sign in.
  • If it isn’t: start on the Install page.

It is an installable web app (PWA) — no app store, updates ride server updates:

  • Chrome/Edge (desktop): install icon in the address bar, or the menu → Install goChatHub.
  • iOS (Safari): Share → Add to Home Screen.
  • Android (Chrome): menu → Add to Home screen → Install.

Installing gets you its own window, your OS notification center, and web push — the browser still needs the site open only in the background. Push requires your server on an HTTPS origin.

Windows and Linux desktop clients are in development — same server, same protocol, built on the web client and shipped the same way (installer and standalone packages). When they land, download links and steps appear here.

Meanwhile the web client installable as a PWA is the desktop answer: one browser install and it behaves like an app.

First login lives in your own hands: accounts are created on the server (see Install), there is no public signup.
